Welcome
Art can invigorate and cultivate our connections to ourselves, each other and our planet. Now is that time.
Art can invigorate and cultivate our connections to ourselves, each other and our planet. Now is that time.
Raised in a small town in Northern California, I spent most days outdoors and in appreciation for the quiet and surrounding beauty. It was here I was also touched by poverty, racism and homophobia. Later, life took me to London, Paris and Hong Kong where I lived and traveled for several years. I experienced a variety of cultures that were extraordinary and deeply inspirational.
Settled currently in Sacramento, California, I continue to draw upon my experiences, both past and present for my work.
My most recent work highlighted the beauty of the California landscapes that sustained me during the Covid lockdown. Going forward, with a sense of urgency, I now turn my focus to the fragile, vulnerable and marginalized of these times; including the homeless, people of color, the LGBTQ community, immigrants, refugees, and teachers. I hope to reach the viewer, to hold their attention, have them think, feel and ultimately inspire them to become an engaged citizen.
I use many different mediums including but never limited to oils, acrylics, pastels as well as wood, metal and clay. They sometimes come together to create layers of color and texture. I'm always playing with new techniques and ideas that can communicate a feeling or idea. In general, I try not to restrict the materials used to create a piece. Playing with different materials is fun and being willing to experiment keeps the wonder alive in my work!
Inspiration can start from anywhere; a conversation, time out in nature, a social movement, a feeling, a desire and typically is channeled from the heart. Ultimately my inspiration comes by way of emotion, the feeling of "awe" or the desire for connection, understanding and/or love. Using inspiration to create often requires an opening up and a trust in the process. Light, color and texture come together to stimulate the soul and influence the heart.
End of Summer Garden Gathering.
Thanks to all who attended!
Trying new techniques and drawing inspiration from my experiences.
